...people are terrified of spikes. Everyone, (thus far) has done almost exactly the same thing that Kim did when she was playing our game. They get a hang of the vines, (ha!) they feel good after they accomplish the task. Then when they get to the next area with the spikes, they stop, always. It's as if the player is still not confident enough in their vine climbing skills. I really believe that the GRG, (Tom's earlier post) is going to eliminate this problem. It will give people an opportunity to fail with no cost, (well except for a battery level).
Another area of slight confusion is when the player first mounts the raptor, they really don't seem so sure of what they are supposed to do once on the dinosaur. I think we should sit down as a team on Tuesday and try to come up with some solutions that won't cost too much time. Players also seem intimidated by the height of the main raptor high jump, (really not a huge prob).
Overall the testing is not complete, I will be at school tomorrow testing various people. The testers that I used over the weekend were not the best of subjects, (friends & out of our age group) however they are gamers and a majority of their skills are relevant towards the level gameplay questions. The main answer received, "this game is pretty damn cool." Good work team! I will have the rest posted tomorrow to the BOX. Thank you. Drive thru!

I actually had a tester say they'd buy the game. While testing the interface I allowed the testers to play the game for as long as they like and I've noticed a similar problem, they all had issues with the vine and paused for extended periods when approaching the vines over the spikes. The area with the vines over the spikes is also where my testers have died the most often and it's also where they spend the most time over any other area in the game.
ReplyDeleteI have a theory that it may have something to do with the controls. Maybe.
I think the players are just more aware that they have gotten to the first point where there character could die. So they are more cautious.
ReplyDeleteBut its just a theory.
