New Instructions Interfaces

Okay so I searched in box.net for the updated game controls with no luck. I know the ghostrig was changed to "R" so I did put that in. For the new instruction menus we now have rollovers to show the player what each control is.

Please go to box.net and look over the swf files to see how it works. Tom or Justin I will need the new controls if we switched them. I will drop these in the milestone folder since they are due today. I dont know if I can do a lot of changes before todays deadline.

Adrianna I tried all kinds of different buttons on the arm but the arm is a lot lower then when I first designed the page last term. Having a button there is not looking right. So I was thinking we just go with the back button. If the player wants to quit in-game they can hit the back button where they can choose to quit.

  3. The only control that was changed for now is the ghost rig to "R". We will change the controls in the future depending on Joe's findings.

  4. The scroll over idea is nice. I like it. Just a few quick notes.

I think we should stick with using the names the team is using for things in our game. "Earth Element" instead of "Element Pickup Item". Also mentioning that it's a "Ghost Rig". This way players can talk about the features in our game.

I think adding the animations to the stars and Earth Element will really bring this screen to life. Especially when we have Zalien doing crazy blinking animations. Also without the animation the Earth Element doesn't resemble Todd's new one.

Stunned is spelled wrong in the stars section.

For future notice I think the food should be added to this screen. I don't see a problem for the main menu screen but the in-game one might be a little too crowded.

Also there's an odd thing happening in both screens when I'm not on a symbol and it's switching to the "stars" and "battery" info.

Some of this is just little stuff. But like Kim said we are allowed to worry about that kind of stuff now.

  5. There are some changes to be made in the instruction, mostly grammatical ones, nothing huge.

Under the arrow key instructions "Move" should be "Moves".

The player does not need to hold the up key to climb the vines they only need to press it only once to grab the vines.

Laser is mispelled, you have it as "Lazer" in the "A" Instructions.

Under the Stars Information the word stunned is mispelled as "Stuned".

All the Instructions that are longer than one sentence are kinda choppy and sound more like bullet points than sentences.

  6. Adrianna is right the player does not need to hold up to grab the vines. However, I think we should tell them they need to hold it. If you watch Kim player our game she doesn't grab the vines because she presses the button once, too early. If the player holds the button they will always grab the vine.

We may change the code for an on and off type thing but it might make the vine climbing more difficult.

  7. Asside from what everyone else has said about the nitpicking (which is very important) I think the rollover idea is rock solid. However, how do we convey to the player that they must roll over each to read up on what each button does? Overcome this small hurdle and fix the nuances and I think we can pretty much call these screens done.
