such a twisted web of lies and deceit? Not I, not I.
The velocity code is coming along pretty nicely. There is some more tweaking to do to smooth out some stuff and make it more realistic. But here is the run down on what is going on.
First, I moved the start platform way up in the air so I could test falling velocity stuffs. To get back on the platform all you have to do is press "r". Yeah, built in cheat codes. We're awesome.
Second I've created a "system" that builds velocity while you run so that when you stop running the velocity pushes you a litte further. Not very far but just enough so that you have to watch what you are doing or you might end up as a little word that says "DEAD".
Thirdly I made it so that when you jump your velocity doesn't change. It propels you a little even if you don't press the walk buttons. I tried doing this with full velocity but it makes the game hard to predict where you will land and it also is very unatural.
4th. When you are falling your velocity creaps down to 0 but if you try to move through the air while falling you do so more slowly that walk speed. This sort of reduces the whole spin and fly through the air at ease thing. This needs some more tweaking though.
E. I also tried doing a "you walk slowly at first and build momentum" thing and it seemed kinda cool. I don't know if we want to use it but I can reimpliment it very easily.
Next, I don't really remember if there was anything else I wanted to include in this post so I'm just going to ramble a bit and make it look like I'm talking about cool stuff. I also might through in a few eye catching words like "Beta" or "System Analysis" so that Kim will think this last part of my post is important. Other than that, uh, my milk is getting warm and making me very sleepy.
As always, the newest version of the game can be found in my folder on box.net.

I really like what you've done here. I have noticed that the game does keep you on your toes more! Ha! Nice move! The golden box needs more ram. It plays well on every other comp though. Your last paragraph was extremely valid. I have taken notes on the "System Analysis" and will implement accordingly.
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that Zalien seems to have "weight" to him. The only thing I've noticed that has nothing to do with your code, Zalien shrinks in the air sometimes. Is there a disconnect in the animation?
ReplyDeleteIt's not the animation, I've played with that over and over. Somwherer in the code it's changing his scale but I've yet to find it. I find that he shrinks in air usually when you are pressing up to catch a vine but there isn't any other scale code other than when he turns around. Very odd.
