Logo Madness

Taking into account that the logo will be included in the game's Interface either as part of the Main Menu or as a transition screen I made it with black outlines.

PLEASE READ! IMPORTANT!

The face is NOT decided upon. Flash crashed as I was making them and so I had to start all over again. I will include a sheet similar to the one below with faces for the group to pick from. These are possible logo color schemes.

Which of these do you like, IF you like any.
Possible color combinations and mix and match ideas are welcome. Since this is the team logo I would like the team to have as much input and say as possible.

I will be posting possible faces soon as well.

I will not be able to make any changes after 9pm tonight as I will have no access to a working computer and I have a few errands to run before going to bed. I will try to tweak and iterate as much as possible tonight before then and will have to come back to whatever I can't finish before the school closes in the morning.

  2. I prefere the top row 2nd and the third row second. The top one uses the ying yang colors which flow with the design but third row one seems to go with the face and angry image.

  3. Like I said feel free to mix and match colors from this color test or suggest new color schemes if you like. Just try to say something before 4pm today so I have time to fix it.

Faces are coming up but please comment on this face if you like or disike it. That way I know which way to go on the new faces.

  4. Why was this the logo that was chosen? Unless I missed something I never heard anything positive from the team about this one.

  5. I decided on this logo for a number of reasons and while I did offer to thumbnail and sketch more logos, due to the time constraints and current workload it was recommended by the Producer that I focus on the 3 designs that had been sketched and viewed by the team.

This was the one that was approved by Kim during the critique, that she stated represented the group and our journey the most, reflecting on that I have to agree and decided to, instead of starting from scratch, tweak a logo design that may not necessarily reflect the team name but does represent what we've been through these past two terms.

A sort of Yin Yang symbol that does not focus on the larger picture but instead on a single fustrating goal that we have been doggedly striving to achieve, working our way through the good and bad times in seemingly endless cycles that are in fact one large circle of progress.

The logo itself is a variation of a thumbnail that intrigued some of the group members and was inspired by the Yin Yang symbol. It originally had an alien element that I removed as the group decision was that the logo should not be based just off the game.

  6. Tom: This was not meant to be a surprise. I discussed this design with Shelby, Krissy, Dan, Joe, and Todd for most of the class on Thursday and drew iterations on the board while you and Justin were messing with the code.

  8. *needed to retype due to typos*

Also you and Justin were in no way excluded from the conversation, I repeatedly asked the group as a whole what they thought that day.

  9. I understand what Kim said, and realized that you were working on this one. I just want to make sure that this was picked because the team wanted it, not because Kim said this one fit our team best out of the three you showed.

Like Kim has been saying for a few weeks, we need to stop doing everything she says down to the letter. We need to think for ourselves as a team.

It seems like more thought being put into this logo which is great. I think we just need an answer that isn't related to "well Kim said". We need answers that include "the team decided" or "the best fit for the team". With all due respect to Kim, it's not her logo or game. It's ours.

So going off of our yin yang decision. I don't like the colors. I think black and white may suit it best. However I'm not sure if a gradient works on it.

I may like colors if they meant something. Since this is our logo everything on it should be chosen for a specific reason. It will not only look better that way but it will get the team more interested in our logo, and help us identify with it.

Also have you thought about an animation for this? It would be cooler to have an animation for a splash screen instead of our logo fading in and out.

  10. I haven't thought too much about ananimation for it as of yet, though Dan and I have been discussing it. A spinning animation perhaps where the smiley spins and grins?

As I was thumbnailing the logo one of the many references I used was the Yin Yang symbol, as noted in the documentation I submitted before the critique, and the design inspired by the symbol was one of the chosen 3 to go ahead into the critique.

Before Kim even saw it I thought it might work as our logo. Granted, the team was not all that pleased by any of the designs but mainly because they didn't necessarily fit the name of the group not because it had no meaning to what we've accomplished so far.

Like Kim has been saying this past term we need to give feedback that is more than I like, I don't like it. I constantly ask for feedback and suggestions and am trying to create something that everyone can relate to without back-tracking to the point the milestone isn't met.

The colors do have some meanings actually, aside from the fact they are pretty. The classic meanings of black and white aside I used blues, oranges, yellows, and purples because I know we've had high and low moments this term, from the dawning of this project to the dusk.

I can't speak for everyone but I've cried and felt bruised because of this experience yet had moments of pride and even contentment. As for green well, it has been a theme throughout this term for us in our work and is just a really good allegory for growth. Green things grow you know?

I used red for anger and fire but sparingly because the anger we've had during this term is not as important as everything else that's happened.

Some of the colors I chose for designs sake because complimentary colors are just easier on the eyes than those that clash. I have to admit though that the last color scheme in the second row does remind me of a beach vacation, that may just be because I want one really bad though. XD

I wouldn't dare use this design just because Kim thought it was appropriate, my butt would be nailed to the wall. I really do believe it could work and I will continue to work on the logo and iterate it til I'm blue in the face if that's what is needed.

The only thing that is left to ask is which design am I turning in in the next half hour?

  11. Well, Todd likes the black and white one, and the green one, Malina likes the black, white, and yellow one. She also likes the red one. And I like the all black and white one.

Those are the comments you have. It seems like you're going to have to pick one based on that feedback. :)

  12. I have individual jpg versions of all these so I will wait just a bit longer to decide which to turn in, hopefully I'll get a bit more feedback from the group in that time.

It just doesn't seem fair if I pick based off us four alone. I may decide to bite the bullet and turn it in a little late so that everyone can at least have a say.

I also predict that next week the logo will have to be iterated. XD

Thank you Tom, you have been a great help to me.

  13. Well you shouldn't turn it in late. The team gave you their feedback. If no one else commented that sucks but you can't hurt yourself for them.

You should pick what you believe to be the final one. If others don't agree then we can address it if there's time later. Otherwise, it was their choice not to comment. Just as long as you take the comments you got into consideration (which I know you will).

  14. Hey I like the one that is in the second row the last one to the right. And I also like the one in the first row the second one.

  15. Awww Tom! Thank you!

I won't hurt myself too much but I do want to try to wait for at least one more comment from someone in the team. If only because that would mean that the majority of the team had the some-what final say.

Now I'm tempted to make a Thin Mints inspired color scheme for the logo. XD

It looks like all Black and White version is in the lead so far. I myself like the Yin Yang version and the 5th version in the second row.
The all black and white version is growing on me though thanks to you guys. It makes me think of the old black and white mickey mouse cartoons for some reason.

    ^_^

  16. Tally so far with the highest votes:

    All Black and White: 2
    2nd row 5th: 2
    Yin Yang: 2

    XD
