Website Design
So I have the website comps done and below you will find the three pages. Page 1 does have a movie clip that cycles through Zalien and the Dinosaurs. I made these in three files so I can update them quickly I will need some help putting them together into one file. I made sure everything is labeled correctly and lined up. I am not sure about the trademark info I put on the bottom, I was going with what a few other game sites had. I can change it to just the regular copyright if we desire. Thank you guys for being so patient. Everything is on box.net so you can view the swf files. Also I was thinking we may want sound on website so Daniel I was hoping maybe we could work together on that? I am not sure if we had a written out story for the game so I did the best I could. I can change it if need be.

My only problem is,why is everything in caps. I would think you would write out everything normal except the middle page. But I will check and see ok. It just seem to look funny thats all.

ReplyDeleteThere are a few things I think could be changed. That particular image of Zalien is has been recycled too often. I do not like that the same image of Zalien is used in the bubble top center and in the bottom right image. Maybe use the picture of him giving a thumbs up in the bubble instead would be less reptitive?
AS for the image with the full body of Zalien a floor or ground for him to stand on would make more sense in the image. Centering the text and image of Zalien inside the box would look better and a space between the underlined "Character Info" and the actual info shown would make it look less squished. The "I" in info should be Capitalized as well.
The Download button should be more prominent since we want the visitor to click it. Maybe make it so that it isn't overlaping the image box? It does look good overall but does not make seem like a clickable button.
I like all the colors just now the white area around the overall design, it seems too bright and distracting.
"Game Credits" seems kind of squished in it's button, I wonder what it would look like without the word "Game" in it. What do you think of just the word "Story" and "Credits"?
Awesome work Malina. I really do like it, I just feel it needs a few tweaks before we turn it in.
There's not really much to the website. I think we need to have screen shots of the game, concept art, and the ability to not only download the game but play it live online (since that was the original goal).
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of scrolling through characters but the alignment is off. On Zalien it's on the left and all the dinos it's centered at the top. Something needs to be the same throughout. Also more info should be given about the characters.
The story and most everything else is in the old documentation.

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, haven't you read the design document? You were there during the presentation at Interfaces, right?
This is the kind of thing that could be forgiven before week 2 started. We are 2 weeks from the end of the class. Let's put on our game faces and try to care about "Time Blunders".
As far as the design of the web site, it doesn't feel like a game website. Like Tom said, where are the screen shots, why would the user have to download the game rather than us just hosting it. On www.AddictingGames.com you don't have to download the game you just play them.
I'm pretty sure that center justification is an absolute no no for most anything.
Also, this site is very inconsistent. Buttons move around, not everything is center justification, and what is up with the squiggly boarder?
I know all this sounds harsh but these things need to be addressed.
I'm really not feeling the wave effect. It seems weird. Also, some of the buttons change names yet stay in the same space. All of the information about the game is in the GDD. I feel that more information should be provided. Maybe some screenshots too?
ReplyDeleteOkay yes I know the basic story outline but I did not know if we had a written out story. As for the design I got the ideas from other flash game websites. Plus this design was one of the ones picked by team members in the thumbnails. I have no problem changing the design. I will also change the download button to play now. Thank you all for your feedback. I will post new website comps asap.
