Everything is the same in the Horizontal Banner I just sped up the animations and added a "Play Now" image in the text.

In the Vertical Banner I changed the hologram so it's horizontal and the title types itself out then disappears and then Play Now types itself out.

I think adding some tweens to the animation will help it immensely. Also, you can change the size of the stage to the size you want your banner to be via the properties. This way you don't have anything bleeding off your banner.
ReplyDeleteDid you check what real banners use for resolution? We should make these as close to the real thing as possible.
I found a nice litte website with the standards for different internet banners.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.bannercreator.nu/banner-size.html
It's got some good info on it. Since your banners are flash it should be really easy to edit them to be compliant.
I am also very well aware how to change canvas sizes in flash and of course research was done into the subject. I have no idea what would make you ask that especially considering the fact that the Horizontal Banner is actually listed on banner creator as "Full Banner".
ReplyDeleteThe only banner that may not be the correct size is the Vertical banner but I am not sure as I was told that the banners were made according to certain standards, IGN's I believe, by Malina who gave me the project to edit.
If you recall Malina posted these last week as well as uploaded them to the box and blog for feedback from the team and never received any feedback on the blog or at the critique where she mentioned that she was having image bleeding issues.
I have done everything I could think of to fix the problem, including starting over again. I will just delete as much as I am able to without damaging the banner to get rid of the image bleeding. If you recall, this issue was mentioned and explained at the critique.
I will also change the size of the Vertical banner as well. Aside from the technical issues is there anything from a design standpoint tat needs to be iterated? I tried to keep with Malina's theme and keep it as true to what was approved as possible.
Now I need to bookmark that link, thanks Justin.
Crap. My Flash CS4 trial just ended and now I can't even open the program. I'll have to change the banner tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIf you check the last banner post there was feedback on it. Sure not everyone commented but there was feedback.
ReplyDeleteAs for at the critique, it was mentioned what needed to be done. If you're having bleeding problems a simple mask will fix it.
For design, I agree that the animations seem jumpy. You're going to need to use tweens. They're easier then frame by frame.
I'm not sure I follow what you mean by "I have no idea what would make you ask that especially considering the fact that the Horizontal Banner is actually listed on banner creator as "Full Banner"."
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm missing something here but your horizontal banner is 488 x 92 and on bannor creator Full Banner is listed at 468 x 60.
And I did comment on Malinas post and said she should do them in Flash. After that there was no more Malina Banner posts. And I don't see where she said anything about running off the page. I may have missed it.
The banners Malina did in Photoshop were the same size as they are in Flash. Since this is the first mention of size issues with the banners I had assumed the ones I was given to edit were correct. I can ask her where she got the banner sizes again tomorrow. As it is I can't edit anything without Flash and the laptop won't let me open it since the trial has run out.
ReplyDeleteMalina didn't post anything in the blog about the images running off. She mentioned it to us in person in class.
Checklist:
ReplyDeleteTweens
Masks (I'll have to look into it I haven't learned how to do those)
Anything else? Colors, placement? Since I'll have to wait until I get to school to fix it I want to get as much feedback as possible so I can finish it pronto.
Tom: There was no feedback about the size. Malina mentioned her banner size sources and no one, not even I, realized that there might be a discrepancy.
Sorry I wasn't aware you meant on the size.
ReplyDeleteBut you can't expect every single piece of feedback about the banner (or any other item) to be given at once. Bigger things get noticed first. Size was something that was not important at that time. As things get closer to being final we start looking at the very little details.
It may not have been brought up then, but it's brought up now. And it will need to be dealt with.
The colors on the banner seem to match the rest of the game. The only thing I would say is that the ad overall doesn't have a "Click Me" feel to it. It may be hard to explain but if you look at other web flash ads they are very busy. This attracts the eye of potential players.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering what banners and other ads you looked at for research. The marketing documentation doesn't have any references in it (this also includes references for why the banner is the size it is).
This is more of a technical thing that you'll implement later, but don't forget to make the banner clickable. You can make it lead to google for testing purposes, then change it to whatever domain name we get.
Of course it will be dealt with, there's no reason for you to think otherwise.
ReplyDeleteMalina never gave me her references and she only mentioned the standards once. When we switched up I was supposed to iterate the look of the banners since she said she wanted to tackle the website and we needed to evenly distribute the work.
I'll see what I can do about making them more flashy without over powering the information. So far I've been using "Play Now" prompts to encourage the player.
You won't find any banner documentation in my folder. It should all be in Malina's.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea why this part of the project became so complicated. The sizes were not correct I was working on the animations and never changed the banner size.
ReplyDeleteI posted the banners just for a design sample and animation test.
I did look at IGN's website banner requirements and I looked at some various flash game websites.
By the way the images I post on this blog are taken from a print screen of flash then I crop it in photoshop and post it. You need to look at the files in box.net (fla & swf) for actual size.
